The issues with Porter build have been solved at . I spoke with and he confirmed that Yocto/OE layer meta-updater works with wic for Renesas Porter board. I have verified that the wic file is generated without any issues therefore I will mark this issue as resolved.

The actual output format is board specific and should not be in the generic sota.bbclass.
