The title is a bit confusing. Here's what I mean:

Nagivate to apps, start weston-terminal, close weston-terminal from the X top bottom, then back to apps (if not already) and start weston-terminal, then attempt to navigate to hvac/mediaplayer. The compositor no longer gets activation requests.
