As the subject states, it appears that syntax highlighting cannot be disabled in code blocks in the current mkdocs configuration, contrary to documented behavior which suggests that using "text" or "nohighlight" after the opening of the code block should do so.  This not a major issue, but it does lead to some odd looking color usage across a lot of the documentation, so it seems worthwhile to investigate if it can be fixed.  Some possible fixes include bumping our mkdocs version, or adding a syntax highlighting plugin with better behavior.
