chinook (and master), using the qemux86-64 vmdk with virtualbox or vmware
When running the vmdk e.g. in VirtualBox, you don't have a terminal/console at hand.
A chvt via ctrl-alt-f1 is also not easy to do, thus currently there is no simple way to install apps as none but the homescreen are installed at boot-time.
The user that downloads the vmdk wants to see the apps working right away.
