Right now, we do not persist any logs, which is the right setting for some use cases. However, it's not the right setting for all cases (an easy one is development). Although putting the logs onto a network filesystem (SPEC-639) is one way to solve this, another way is to allow an override in local.conf (or similar) so that you can choose to have persistent logs.

We should add such an option to make it configurable.
