On today's build of master running on Porter, I boot up to the HomeScreen and no icons are displayed. This seems to make sense in this case as I verified that no apps are installed:

      root@porter:~# afm-util list
      [ ]

Attempting to install an app manually results in the following:

      root@porter:/usr/AGL/apps# afm-util install settings.wgt
      Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Failed: "system error"

and the following log from AFB:

      May 12 18:06:17 porter afm-system-daemon[589]: NOTICE: -- INSTALLING widget /usr/AGL/apps/settings.wgt to /var/local/lib/afm/applications -- [/usr/src/debug/af-main/1.0-r0/git/src/wgtpkg-install.c:357]
May 12 18:06:17 porter afm-system-daemon[589]: ERROR: error in creation of workdir /var/local/lib/afm/applications/TMP0: Inappropriate ioctl for device [/usr/src/debug/af-main/1.0-r0/git/src/wgtpkg-workdir.c:141]
May 12 18:06:17 porter afm-system-daemon[589]: ERROR: failed to create a working directory [/usr/src/debug/af-main/1.0-r0/git/src/wgtpkg-install.c:362]

My best guess is that this error prevented all the apps from being installed automatically on first boot.
