I've restarted the session, having a few applications running (4 or 5) which caused systemd-coredump to start generating coredumps. With it, the compositor, homescreen and launcher restarted as well.

When launcher started again it failed to retrieve applications list and it only displays the background. IMO this seems a bit inconsistent, either launcher has a retry mechanism, or exit to allow to start it again from the homescreen panel.
