most kernel module does not build against 5.4 kernels

Some machines are using Linux 5.4 now that we've uprevved the master branch to the Yocto Project zeus release. With this kernel the way that CFLAGS are handled for object files is a bit different and we need to patch most to account for this. However, we still need to support 4.19 or earlier kernels as not everyone is on such a shiny new kernel.
